Whaddaya know… Just because a film was shot in Malaysia 7 years ago with him as a hero, Shah Rukh Khan was awarded a Datukship by the Melaka State Government. The Chief Minister said that the film, One 2 Ka 4, shot at the A’Famosa Resort have brought “many” people to visit Melaka.
But how many is many? I just got back from A’Famosa today and that place seemed pretty dead. Hardly anyone was there. Even Melaka town itself doesn’t seem to have that many people there.
If Shah Rukh Khan was given an award for a movie, what about Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta Jones? They starred in the movie Entrapment that featured the Petronas Twin Towers. Or the actors who were in the movie Anna & The King? Or the Chinese actors who shot a number of movies in this country? I don’t think Shah Rukh Khan even cares one way or another about the title. He’s not going to get paid for it, is he?
If you want to award titles to people, give them to the ones who deserve them the most. Who have contributed big and meaningfully to the country. Not just because he was able to swim across a strait, or because he was a policitian. But then, with the number of Datuks and Tan Sris and Datuk Seris that we already have, another one to whoever wouldn’t make any difference. It just shows that titles are damn cheap in this country.
I mean, if anybody can get it, then what’s the point of getting one? It has no meaning anymore, don’t you agree?
