Two weeks after the KL Open, Universiti Perguruan Sultan Idris (UPSI) organised their own netball tournament. It was a two-day event, from 1st to 2nd of March, 2008. Again, like KL Open, the matches were played on grass.
66 teams participated in various categories such as Girls Under 15, Girls Under 18, UPSI Men & Women and Men’s Open. 8 teams confirmed participation for the Men’s Open category but only 7 teams turned up.
Men’s Open category was played on Sunday. It was a hot and dry day, the one that made you feel tired even when you were standing still under the sun. Since only 7 teams participated, we decided to use the league format.
Here are the results for the Men’s Open category:

Congratulations to team Royale A for winning the tournament. They won RM500 cash money and medals.

Truth to tell, men have been playing netball since the 1930s. It’s only in Malaysia that the guys are rather “shy” (hah!) about it. If women can play takraw or soccer or rugby, what’s wrong with men playing netball? It’s only a sport, is it not?
I’ve lost track already how many times I’ve said that.
*sigh*
