How I love working for big companies. Especially the ones which put importance in sports. I’m an avid sports fan and competitive sports are really the things I enjoy greatly. ![]()

The annual Pesta Sukan Maybank (Maybank Sports Carnival) was held in Maybank Learning Centre, Bangi and this year it was from 7 to 9 December. The event was kicked off with a march pass by all of the 15 participating contingents, followed by the official opening of the game by the chairman of Maybank, Tan Sri Mohamed Basir Bin Ahmad.

Etiqa March Pass Team
Competitions were held for the titles of Best March Pass Team and Placard Queen. Etiqa Insurance & Takaful, the winner of the march pass title for the past 3 years, put high hope of winning the title again this year. Similarly for Aseambankers who won the Placard Queen title for the past 4 years (I think).

Aseambankers Placard Queen

Etiqa Placard Queen
Alas, it was a big disappointment to team Etiqa who lost the title to Wilayah Persekutuan and a bigger upset for Aseambankers who did not even reach the top 3. That’s okay guys. No luck this year, it seems. Let’s do better next year, okay.

Etiqa Volleyball Team
Just like last year, I was in the Etiqa volleyball team. (It seems that I’m stuck with it. To these people, I am now synonym with volleyball
) We were grouped with the defending champion for the third (or is it fourth) year in a row. Made me wonder who actually did the grouping. No transparency at all! But this year we were very very lucky because the other team in our group was Singapore. That basically qualified us straight away to the quarter-finals. Hahahahaha… ![]()
Our first game was against Pahang, the defending champion, which we lost 2-0 as expected. The second game was against Singapore, which we won 2-0, again as expected. Hehehehe… In the quarter-finals we met Federal Territory where we lost 2-0. So that ended our volleyball challenge, which was not really that much anyway in the first place. ![]()
Here are some photos during the carnival.

All in all, it was a good achievement by the Etiqa team. We managed to get silver for table tennis, bronze for tennis and basketball, and reached the quarter-finals for volleyball and soccer. As for the rest (sepak takraw, netball, hockey, badminton and futsal), keep up the good work and let’s try to do better next year. Who knows, maybe we’d be the overall champion then.
